Tincup Colorado – the town – September 2019

Tincup was famous for having their town marshals not last long. Only one ever served a full term. All the rest, a total of six, were shot down or decided the job was not for them. Of course, with 26 saloons in 1882 I guess you could expect some violence. Rough town with about 3,000 population at its peak. The town started out a Virginia City but the postal service rightfully considered that being confusing with the Virginia Cities in Montana and Nevada. It was changed to Tin Cup and then eventual, after much arguing in town, to Tincup. Probably a good thing the silver bust along with poor transportation and short mining season dealt the death blow to Tincup. Numerous original buildings and today many buildings have been restored and or preserved as summer homes and yearlong residence. And still today people argue about the spelling, one word or two?

Plenty to still see here but you must make a visit out of town to walk thru the many cemeteries. Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, Boot Hill and Katie Fishers.
