- Standing lonely on the plains. At least someone is attempting to save some history. I was told by a wise man that Alvin holds the record for the most different locations for a town at five. Some of these towns moved frequently. It appears I found the fifth and final location of the store. The Alvin store is what moved five times. It was bought and sold and moved to the new owner’s ranch site. Because the store was the Post Office it also took the name of the town with it to the new location. Up until the Post Office closed in 1929 the store was a gathering place for the ranching community.
