Vilas or as some maps suggest Villas Colorado was platted in 1887. It was only about 12 miles from Boston Colorado one of the west’s wildest trail towns. It even competed with Boston for the county seat. they both lost out. Springfield won the honor. This was a cattle ranching town that survived the droughts in the late 1890’s and then the great dust bowl of the 1930’s. Some of the buildings from Boston were moved here when that town was deserted in 1892.
