Levy New Mexico Townsite – Ghost town
Photos courtesy of Mike Sinnwell March 2009
As I drove Interstate 25 through New Mexico I spotted this town just off the road. As usual the urge to wander overtook my sense of urgency to get to Arizona. I soon found myself walking the streets of this deserted town. Can’t really say deserted as I did see some cars parked by one house. I still have not been able to discover anything about Levy as I researched this place. Â I am hoping a visitor to the site can write me a note and give me some background. Until then enjoy the photos. Plenty to see if you stop and look. Â Â Â
A viewer writes – Friday August 30th 2013 — Hello, Â I found your photos on the Ghost Town of Levy New Mexico. In my ancestry research I found that my grand father Manuel Rael according to his draft registration card lived in Levy NM (no numbered address) during the time period of June 1917. Â He was 23 years old and single at the time and worked as a sheep herder employed by Thomas Blattman.
I couldn’t get Google maps to bring the town up on the map, so I did an internet search which found it and your site. Â Â
Thanks for the pictures, it’s nice to see what is left after so many years. Â Â Tina=
Rocky Says – NO Â I thank you for caring and commenting….

A viewer writes – Sunday July 26th , 2015 – Thanks for the pictures. Â My grandfather, Charles Pickett, homesteaded in Wagon Mound NM in the early 1900’s. Â My dad was born there but his younger brother and sister were born in Levy. Â I’ve often wondered why they went to Levy to have their other two children.
